As for more specific details, below is a series of explanations from Heritage Brass, concerning the British Standards, the Dimmer Switches, the Low Voltage Dimmers, the Telephone Sockets, the Co-axial TV/FM Sockets, and the Non-Standard accessories.

British Standards

All the Heritage Brass ranges are extensive collections of quality solid brass plate electrical wiring accessories designed and manufactured to fully meet the requirements of relevant British Standards

Dimmer Switches

It should be noted that dimmers have both maximum and minimum loading levels, loading below the minimum level may result in lamp flicker and possible shortening of lamp life. Dimmer loading levels
  • 250W    min. 60W    max. 250W
  • 400W    min. 60W    max. 400W
The following maximum plate loadings should not be exceeded.
  • Single Plate - 600W
  • Double Plate - 1200W

Low voltage dimmers

When controlling low voltage lighting a low voltage dimmer must be used in conjunction with the transformer. The primary side of the transformer is regulated by the dimmer, the output from the secondary side(connected to the lamps) being proportional to the primary input. It should be noted that the low voltage dimmer rating is the maximum circuit load not the maximum load which can be connected. As a general guide, the maximum lamp load=Dimmer rating less 20%. It should also be noted that not all electronic transformers are dimmable. If in doubt the adivce of the transformer manufacturer should be sought.

Telephone sockets

  • Both Master and Secondary types of socket are available, for use in British Telecom standard systems.
  • Master Socket - fitted as the first socket on all direct exchange line systems.
  • Secondary Socket - Used in conjunction with master sockets to provide plug-in extension facilities.
  • Any number of secondary sockets may be connected to a single exchange line system but the number of telephones and/or ringing devices is restricted, normally to a maximum of four.
  • Both a master and secondary sockets have IDC type connections requiring the use of an IDC tool.
  • It is permissible for an electrical contractor or consumer to install secondary sockets and associated wirin in premises with a single exchange line. The final connections or the secondary system and exchange line to the master socket mush be made by British Telecom under all circumstances.

Co-Axial TV/FM sockets

Types of co-axial sockets are available as follows:
  • Non isolated - used in domestic and similar installations where one outlet is required.
  • Isolated - used in multi-outlet systems like flats, hotels, etc, where signal amplifier is used.
  • Diplexed - used to connect both TV and FM, via single down-lead.

Non Standard accessories

Whilst The Heritage Brass ranges are designed to provide great flexibility in meeting the specification requirements of larger installations, from time to time non-standard products will be required to meet special installation needs. If you need any non standard wiring accessories, do not hesitate to contact us.

Installations:

  • The non-isolated co-axial outlet installation in a domestic property - house - if more than one outlet is required, an amplifier should be used. Each outlet would be then wired separately to the amplifier.
  • Isolated co-axial outlet installation in a communal aerial system, like flats, hotels, etc - Separate co-axial cable down lead to each outlet, and isolated co-axial outlet.
  • TV/FM isolated diplexed outlet installation: Note. The Twin Isolated Socket has one common aerial connection. The Twin Non-Isolated Socket has two separate aerial connections.
