We at Sparks sell a wide range - even the whole range - of switches and sockets made by Forbes and Lomax, and even though one thinks he knows, it is always good to have some advice when it comes to maintaining or cleaning the plates. First of all, let us introduce Forbes and Lomax at Sparks. Who are Forbes and Lomax, and what do they do?Forbes and Lomax was established in 1987 with a particular approach to electrical accessories - from an aesthetic point of view. Since the elegant glass, nickel, and brass plates of the 1930s were no longer available and there were no modern equivalents, they launched the Invisible Lightswitch and their amazing Brass, Nickel and Bronze plates. These are ideal for prestigious projects and interiors designed by many architects. The Invisible lightswitch, for example, comes with a simple transparent Perspex plate allowing the wallpaper or paint to show through, having a stylish metal switch in the middle. There's a wide range of metal switches, dimmers, and toggles available, all of which are able to combine an attractive design with all the advantages of modern technology. Forbes and Lomax also offer a wide range of rotary dimmers and momentary switches. The rotary dimmers can dim up or down the LED lamps, while the momentary switches allow you to control sophisticated home automation systems. Besides these, there are many other high-quality rocker switches, sockets, USB charger sockets, and dimmers in a variety of finishes to suit the demands of contemporary or traditional architects and interior designers. Maintaining the Forbes and Lomax PlatesCleaning the Forbes and Lomax Invisible PlatesThe invisible plate by Forbes and Lomax requires very little cleaning. The clear perspex plate protects the wall from everyday dirt and grime. If there's any cleaning required, it is recommended to use a clean cloth and buff until the marks are no longer visible. The plates should be removed from the wall to prevent damage to wallpaper or paint; alternatively, a protective layer of card can be inserted behind the edge of the plate. Do not use water-based cleaners as they will leave marks and damage the plates.Buy Forbes and Lomax Unlacquered BrassCleaning the Forbes and Lomax Stainless Steel PlatesThe Stainless Steel plates from Forbes and Lomax can be cleaned using a small amount of stainless-steel cleaner. These are normally spray cleaners and should be sprayed directly onto the cloth and buffed into the plate. The manufacturer recommends that plates be removed from the wall before cleaning to prevent damage to the wall surface. Alternatively, place a protective piece of card between the plate and the wall before cleaning.Buy Forbes and Lomax Stainless SteelCleaning the Forbes and Lomax Nickel Silver PlatesThe Nickel Silver plates by Forbes and Lomax are extremely low-maintenance. Any fingerprints or marks can be removed using a dry soft cloth or duster such as a micro cloth.Buy Forbes and Lomax Nickel SilverCleaning the Forbes and Lomax Antique Bronze PlatesThe Forbes and Lomax Antique Bronze range requires little maintenance as it has a slight lacquer; a clean, soft cloth can be used to wipe away any dust. It is recommended to remove plates before cleaning them to prevent damage to the wall surface.Buy Forbes and Lomax Antique BronzeCleaning the Forbes and Lomax Aged Brass PlatesThe Aged Brass plates from Forbes and Lomax start as an antiqued finish and when left will continue to patina even more with time. If cleaning is necessary, it should be done with a soft clothBuy Forbes and Lomax Aged BrassCleaning the Forbes and Lomax Verdigris PlatesThe Verdigris plates by Forbes & Lomax require little maintenance and are one of the most practical finishes. As these plates have undergone two processes of both bronzing and patina, the plate is well protected and requires little maintenance other than dust.Cleaning the Forbes and Lomax Brushed Brass PlatesThe Forbes and Lomax Brushed Brass plates are lacquered, which enables the plate finish to be preserved. A wipe with a micro cloth would remove any finger marks, but we would not recommend any strong metal cleaners, as this may compromise the lacquer on the plate.Buy Forbes and Lomax Brushed BrassCleaning the Forbes and Lomax Painted PlatesAll the Forbes and Lomax Painted plates are coated with a universal primer, which is suited to all paint finishes, however, it is recommended using eggshell, as it is durable and can be easily cleaned and provides a smooth finish. Before painting, remove the plate from the wall and lie on a flat surface (a piece of clean A4 paper is ideal). It can be helpful to use a small roller. Apply two coats for lighter colours and a third for darker colours. Wait until the paint is dry before applying each additional coat. Applying a top coat of clear matt varnish can help protect against marks and blemishes.Buy Forbes and Lomax Painted Plates
