Illuma is a leading lighting manufacturer, specialising in a range of commercial and industrial lighting solutions. Their spotlights and track LED spots can be found in a massive variety of famous and interesting locations, varying from the Tate Edit gift shop to Lord's Cricket Ground to the Boxpark 'pop-up mall' in Shoreditch. Illuma are an entrusted powerhouse in spotlight solutions, providing light to illustrious locations, including sports centres, galleries, churches and car showrooms. Illuma Rotaspot and Gridspot LED - Specifications Looking at Sparks favourites, the Rotaspot are a contemporary range of LED spotlights that expertly mix versatility with flexibility. They have a fantastic degree of rotation, both horizontally and vertically with an impressively strong output of 3000K. They offer a sublime colour rendering amount of 85 CRI which imbues a crisp, precise lighting. What's more, they have a long life of up to 50,000 hours, lower energy costs and a reduced need for maintenance. Gridspot are also a highly popular feature of Illuma's - they offer a high standard output of 4000 lumens and 85 CRI. They are dimmable as standard and available in three different sizes and two finishes. Illuma Rotaspot LED Track Spot in Damien Hirst's 'Other Criteria' 'Other Criteria' was founded by renowned and subversive artist Damien Hirst, who wished to showcase the best in emerging and stimulating art in a range of different mediums. All the artworks © the artists Located in the artistic hotspot of Newport Street, Hirst desired to make modern art 'approachable and attractive', and above all, affordable. He wanted a location for modern art that wouldn't be intimidating to a normal shopper, and so went about setting the shop up in a manner that would emphasise this accessibility. A huge factor in this was always going to be lighting, and the Retail Operations Manager at the time insisted that they were in need of a 'flexible lighting solution that could be constantly be adapted to suit their changing artwork'. And, as it turned out, the Illuma Rotaspot LED track spotlight fit this description of their requirements perfectly. Although the Newport Street store had an existing track system that was still in working order, they knew they needed an LED lighting solution due to the great advancements in LED technology. How Rotaspot LED fit the bill at 'Other Criteria' It was suggested then that  Rotaspot and Gridspot right off the bat as the answer for 'Other Criteria' lighting issue. The reason was that the Rotaspot would provide the correct accent of lighting whilst adding texture. Furthermore, it would be powerful enough to accentuate the artwork on the floor, complimenting it from overhead. Another major area where the Rotaspot LED proved to be beneficial was in its versatility; with its excellent range of rotation and light weight, the Rotaspot looked to be the best option. What sealed the deal was the Rotaspot LEDs DALI dimmability function, a universal lighting function, which would enable it to fit easily onto the existing track system in the shop. Rotaspot's role in bringing 'Other Criteria' to life The Illuma Rotaspot LED application in, Damien Hirst's 'Other Criteria'. All the artworks © the artists Other Criteria set a layout with 15 Rotaspot LED's which have unobtrusively populated the store's ceiling, fitting in perfectly with the white decor of the shop. The Rotaspot's are angled in such a way as to highlight particularly noteworthy pieces of work. They use a Warm White colour temperature of 3000K that brightens the room and allows the works to be seen in their full glory. The aesthetic appearance of the white Rotaspot LED was deemed an excellent match for the brand along with its technical performance and DALI dimmable capabilities. Gridspot LED lights the way for LFC's Flagship Store refurbishment Liverpool Football Club is a professional association football club based in Liverpool, Merseyside, England and compete in the Premier League, the top-tier of English football, and in 2015 they decided their main retail store was in need of a refurbishment. The brief given to Illuma was to provide a comprehensive lighting proposal that would genuinely compliment the new, high-end feel of the store whilst offering flexibility in what would be an ever-altering retail environment. Illuma also wanted to make a point of increasing the already existing lux levels that were highlighting the merchandise. They felt strong light levels would draw visitors to particular displays and podiums within the store. How the Gridspot LED Spotlights Sport some Excellent Lighting Due to the size of the refurbished store, Illuma incorporated Arc 183 LED, Project 85 LED as well as Gridspot LED spotlights into the lighting system. This aided in focusing the light more solely on the merchandise and helped to create highlights and contrasts within the store. The Gridspot LEDs were used on a flexible, suspended track in order to provide a manoeuvrable solution, primarily in the central area of the store where they could highlight the product tables, and the famous red Liverpool kits. Illuma's Lighting Designer stated that their main objective with the lighting design was to provide 'a low-energy lighting solution with a high output. We kept our focus on lighting the colourful merchandise, till areas and the central podium as this is the main focal point of the store. The end result is a flexible and functional installation that delivers an eye-catching result'. We visited Lux Live 2017, so here are some Interesting LED Lights and Technologies

Last week we went to the annual Lux Live, Lux Live 2017, one of the greatest lighting shows in Europe. We only had a few hours on the first day to check it out, so we didn't attend seminars and speeches, but the place was pretty packed and there was a lot of good vibe all around. We saw some really interesting LED lights and LED lighting technologies, and we also saw quite a few Chinese manufacturers bringing their LED lights to the European market. As they say on their website, lighting is changing, and there are smarter and better luminaires. What seemed to be a "fad" a few years ago with LEDs, now it has developed to become one of the biggest lighting revolutions ever. From the Gooee IoT arena to the LIA live and the escape zone, from exhibitors to hundreds of free talks (when you're tired of walking and talking), from the lightspace arena to the LIA lighting academy, and from Li-fi experience to the smart spaces conference, we loved this years Lux Live! We didn't take too many pictures, and we can't talk about every company we met, so here we'll list some of our friends and suppliers that we got to talk to and see their newest stuff. Astro Lighting - LED lights and even some Track LightsThey came out with their new catalogue fresh off the press at this lighting show, and they displayed their lights in a very simple design. It was an honor to meet James Bassant, the design director and one of the founders of Astro Lighting, and have a chat concerning some of their newest additions (like the new track lights and spotlights). Loved the simple and not-so-packed arrangement of their LED wall lights, ceiling lights, and exterior lamps; they really give you an impression of their excellent design. Rako Controls - All NEW Wireless ModulesIf you're looking for mood lighting and ambience lighting and you're not ready to break the bank with more expensive solutions like Lutron, Rako Controls is what you need. At LuxLive they brought in their all new wireless modules, and they had a great display of the DMX, constant current LED modules, silent transistor dimmers, curtain and blinds, constant voltage LEDs, inductive dimmers, DALI control, 1-10V and DSI, and switched loads modules. Also, they have a new NFC product range, with the wired functionality from a wireless keypad, and they connect to any conventional switch. B.E.G. - the Lighting Control ProfessionalsWe visited BEG only in passing, and we admired their PIR detectors and their new PureColour detector for wellbeing with color control (controlling the light color in a LED bulkhead). German quality! Horton LightingMany of our ballasts and fluorescent trays are from Horton Lighting, and they continue to bring in some of the best and most popular such items in the market, be it from Tridonic, LEDVANCE, Philips, VS Lighting solutions, or LitePlan. V-TAC - Innovative LED LightingGood quality LED light bulbs and LED fittings at a cost that's lower than most others, the V-TAC innovative LED lighting have both LED lamps and incorporated LED fittings. They now came out with some IP65 rated exterior and interior LED wall lights, and soon they will bring out the V-TAC pro 180lm/W super efficient LED lights and LED fittings. Hamilton Litestat - Switching and Dimming LED lightsIf you want more complex systems for both lighting and smart home control, you have to see what Hamilton has to offer. We distribute some of their more popular switches, sockets, dimmers, and other wiring accessories in finishes such as white plastic and transparent. It was great to see them and to realize how many more ranges they have and are considering to bring in. Integral LED - LED Lamps and LED FittingsDefinitely a great chat with the good people at Integral LED, where we saw some really interesting developments in the fire rated IP65 rated downlights (their Lux fire range). Dimmable, fire rated, and IP65 rated - what else do you need? Plus, they came out with a LED panel - back-lit technology with market leading efficiency, up to 90% more efficient than popular edge-lit panels (in their own words). And their EvoFire range simply blew our mind away: reducing a downlight to a simple structure where you put the LED lamp: a canless design with a low profile body that is lightweight. ALL LED - LED Marker Lights and LED StripsLocated next to their friends at Aurora, ALL LED displayed some really neat paintable LED marker lights (you can design them with your own design or colour, as needed), which are also dimmable. Their 1W range of micro-marker and mini-markers are like no other, and they come in warm white, cool white, or blue. Plus, there's quite a few inground - driveover LED marker lights, and some low level LED accent lighting. And the LED strip lights with different wattage per meter, plus RGB, RGBW, and wi-fi controls. Aurora Lighting - Smart, Fire Rated, and LED LightsThey are well-established in the lighting market, and their ranges are both popular and recognizable. Aurora Lighting provides a wide range of residential and commercial LED lights and LED lighting systems, including solutions for smart lighting spaces and smart home devices. They do both indoor and outdoor LED lights, with different IP rating. Crompton Lamps with Phoebe LED and FireSafeHere's an example of a company who knows what to do when LEDs are everywhere: Crompton Lamps, who via their Phoebe LED (Phoebe, the goddess of light) division, provide a wide range of LED downlights that are both dimmable and fire rated, offering a tri-colour select of 3000K, 4000K, or 6500K. And with their Spectrum range they have a 10W color-changing downlight tunable white, with a RGB colour changin rim, controllable via a Bluetooth app. Gimmicky? Probably, but there's a chance that some office buildings or conference rooms may opt for different light settings as different occasions and meetings come up. Illuma Lighting - LED Track SpotlightsGoing bigger and more professional with great performance, Illuma Lighting are definitely one of the leaders in the UK lighting industry in terms of LED track lighting - both 1-circuit and 3-circuit. And every year they bring in not only a new catalogue with more wall LED lights, ceiling LED lamps, and track spotlights, but different and better LED track spot lights to meet both the residential and commercial lighting needs. And they have some really lovely wall washers which can be re-oriented as needed - for indoor wall lighting. Wago - Connectors and ConnectionsEverybody knows and loves the WAGO solutions, and on our website we have a dedicated section to their versatile and popular products. Block systems, connectors, PCB terminal blocks, rail mounted terminal blocks, and many other connectors - the electricians love them, and we as wholesalers love to provide them. Great to see them at Lux Live 2017! As we were saying at the beginning of this article, there were many more other exhibitors and cool products, innovations, talks, and seminars, and we only had a few hours to quickly visit some of them. Loved the show this year, looking forward to the Lux Live 2018! PS. Follow us on Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, and Twitter to see more pictures and updates on LuxLive and other events.

Lux Live 2014: What we Saw and Loved during our Short Visit to this Lighting Show

One more year, one more LuxLive - this time it was #LuxLive2014 on Twitter - where many lighting exhibitors came to both display and talk about their latest and greatest. You could hear the latest lighting tech from the big brands, listen to up to 50 hours of free talks in their arenas, and see most of the world's biggest lighting brands. And all of this only in two days. We made it to the second day toward the end of the show, but we saw quite a few things. The emphasis, you guessed it, is LED: LED "fluorescent" lights, LED wall lights, LED light bulbs (some of which were even offered for free!), LED floor lights, LED outdoor lights, LED flood lights, LED everywhere. We couldn't see all that was exhibited, and we couldn't possibly post about it on the blog, but here are our top picks of what we saw and loved at this years' Lux Live. BEG Luxomat at Lux Live 2014The German brand BEG Luxomat was present with some new stuff besides the well-known PIRs: now they have Luxomatic, groupable, energy-efficient lights for wall and ceiling mounting, and they also have some new versions of PIRs that can be individually programmable and resettable via a Bluetooth remote control. Great idea, with the mention: please secure the access to the PIRs and occupancy detectors! Illuma Lighting at Lux Live 2014As usual, Illuma was there showcasing their latest LED track spotlights, and their "5-year guarantee" promise was right up on the wall. They came out with some new products, of which we are about to find out more soon. Danlers at Lux Live 2014The great people at Danlers were there, with their PIR occupancy switches for wall or ceiling mounting, and this time they have something new: the ControlZAPP system. It is a new innovative energy saving lighting control with remote control and programming via an Android app. Also, they have their new LED dimming modules which promise to work with most dimmable LED lamps. Aurora Lighting at Lux Live 2014 We didn't stay much at their booth, but Aurora Lighting promised to showcase some unparalleled LED technologies with a team of representatives (all dressed in light green T-shirts) to discuss excellence in driverless luminaires. Check out their coverage and photo gallery via their blog. BELL Lighting at Lux Live 2014BELL Lighting had a wide range of LED lamps in all kinds of lamp caps, wattages, lumens, and shapes. Quite interesting to see how many types are out there. Gap Lighting at Lux Live 2014We loved the display Gap Lighting put on, showcasing their LED wall lights for outdoors and LED ceiling lights for indoors, including some of their best LED strip lights and flood lights. Retrotouch at Lux Live 2014A great brand soon to be distributed by us, the people at RetroTouch have a wide range of touch and remote switches and dimmers. Rocker light switches, touch light switches, glass remote switches, dimmer remote switches, etc you name it - great alternative to the existing wiring devices. CoeLux at Lux Live 2014Something that blew us all out of our mind is the CoeLux skylight technology bringing the sunlight to windowless spaces. The pictures above don't do it justice, so you will have to watch the videos below. How about that! LED technology bringing artificial skylight that you won't believe it is real! Kosnic at Lux Live 2014Some awesome LED downlights, Facet LED downlights, LED panels, and twin bar LED panels (replacing the ceiling modular panels), and all kinds of LED PowerSpot GU10, Reon LEDs, and LED lights for home from Kosnic. Great stuff.Franklite at Lux Live 2014Since the buzzword is LED, Franklite also came out with some high-quality LED wall lights, LED chandeliers, LED table lamps, and much more. Great fittings from a renowned brand of light fixtures. ...and much more. We are pretty sure most of the lighting exhibitors at LuxLive already posted (or will post) on their blog or news section, but this is our take on what we saw and loved the most at Lux Live this year. We hope you enjoyed them! PS. Last year's review for Lux Live is here.

Did You See the New Illuma High Powered LED Track Spotlights Video Presentation?

A little over 1 week ago we had the privilege to be visited by someone at Illuma Lighting, and so we took this opportunity to have him filmed as he is introducing range after range from their fantastic offer. LED spot lights, LED track spotlights, commercial and retail lighting systems, track systems, classical and innovative, you name it: Illuma is a brand everyone who's into track lighting and spotlights has heard of! Without further due, here are the 6 minutes and 45 seconds of the video presentation (see notes below): Introducing Illuma Rotaspot and Other LED Track Spotlights The Lumapar range of spotlights, with adaptor for the single circuit track system: as simple as "click it and flip it in". Great for a cafe or bar lighting, hanging on the ceiling or track system. Consistency of design: 15 years from now you will be able to change the fittings with a similar yet more updated track spotlight or fitting. The Illuma Rocket spotlights: a bit of bezel (T425) with a good lumen output. Great for galleries and museums. It uses the latest LED technology. The high-powered fittings, the Illuma Rotaspot: 2000lm, 3000lm, and 4500lm LED. It's a premium range, the best product Illuma does, both in white and black. Put it on the track, and then rotate it / adjust it at the angle you want: 90 degrees, 180 degrees. It goes around, and it allows you to rotate the head both ways. If you mount it on top of something, you can "hide the fitting" and still get the effective light it shines. The Wing LED: similar to Rotaspot, with Phillips inside, but narrower depth and wider surface: a different design. The Torp LED spotlight: has slightly more mobility, and it locks in at 190, 150, and 90 degrees. The lighting pattern: high-powered LED, you get no "patches" but the light fades out smoothly. Smooth lighting in warm white, bringing out the greens and yellows. If people are involved, it is recommended to have a warm white lighting. Please note: the above LED spots are no longer available; see the Illuma Gridspot 15W, Illuma Rotaspot 31W, Illuma Gridspot Anti-Glare 14.2W, and Illuma Probeam LED 14.1W. All of them can be found via Illuma Track Spotlights. The best people to advise you on the LED spotlights, track systems, and high-power LED lights is, among others, Sparks Electrical Wholesalers. With our apologies for the many background noises - this filming was ad-hoc, not planned - including the phone ringing (it's a "problem" we have daily) and other noises, we hope you enjoy their presentation as much as we do! And, we promise, we've got more to show you! More videos coming soon.

Lux Live 2013 Day 1: LED Lights, Energy Saving, and Lots of Good Talks

For the second year in a row, we went to visit the annual Lux Live lighting exhibition in Earl Court, and we were not disappointed. As the title says it, everyone was focused on energy saving and LED lighting. And, if possible, the reducing of the costs both for manufacturing the LED lights and for purchasing them. We took a look around, visited some of our old friends :) and made new friends too, and listened to a talk or two, snapped a photo or two, tweeted a bit.... Speaking of pictures, here are some of our Instagrams from this time (in case you missed them or you didn't follow us on twitter): Illuma Lighting at #LuxLive2013 - new LED spotlights for track systems, including some awesome remote-controlled track spotlights for commercial lighting! Danlers - Lots of PIR occupancy switch modules, either ceiling or wall-mounted. Check out their range on our website here. Aurora Lighting, always present at lighting shows, displays some of their latest LED downlights, fire rated recessed LED lights, dimmable lights, etc. Great products, also listed on our site here. Office Lighting Talk at Lux Live 2013 day 1 - energy saving, lighting design, people-focused or rigidly meeting the standards, customizing your lights, task lighting, etc. Just when things got heated up, the session had to end... Powerlite Lighting Solutions at LuxLive, with their well-known track systems, now with LED spotlights and some other cool LED solutions for indoor and outdoor lighting! Check out Microlux and Sign Lights here. Rako Total Lighting Control Systems with their blobs and dimmers and systems for remotely controlling the lights, both switching and dimming them from your iOS device....great guys. You can find them on our site. Name and Shame #LuxLive2013 - the last session we sneak-peaked at, with proof pictures of light fittings installed incorrectly, ON still during the day, energy waste, etc. Today is the second day of #LuxLive2013, and you can visit the many booths of lighting manufacturers, lighting resellers, lighting designers, etc plus listen to the great talks and sessions they have available in more than 3 venues (including the one in the middle of the show!).And a big thank you to all the ones organizing the show and making it possible! :)

Aurora and Illuma among the Lux Magazine's 2013 UK Lighting Power List

We are big fans of Lux Magazine, both the website, the events they organize, and the magazine. PS. The Lux Magazine was a publication in the lighting industry - and it has now been discontinued.Monthly, they bring out the best and the latest in the Lighting Industry realm. The April 2013 Lux Magazine is out (not yet on their website), and one of the highlights is the Best of British Lighting Manufacturers list. Among these there were a few that we recognized, some of our friends at Aurora Group and Illuma Lighting. Aurora Group - Big and Getting Bigger Part of the Lux Magazine Power List (the big movers and shakers in the UK lighting business), Aurora Group manufactures pretty much almost everything when it comes to lighting. Our customers both in store and online are very happy with the quality and the amazing range of light fittings with new technologies incorporated in the Aurora lights. Where you can see them in action, as per Lux, is, Aurora's products have been used in an incredible range of settings, including McDonald's retrofits, the Olympic Park and Athletes' Village, British Airways flight simulators, a luxury hotel in Cape Verde, a Royal Mail sorting office in Northern Ireland, and thousands of shops around the world. You can check out the wide range of Aurora lights, many of which have revolutionized the lighting industry in the UK and in the world. Check out some of their display at the recent Lux Live show. Illuma Lighting - in the Spotlight  Illuma Lighting is best known for their track lights and spotlights, available in both mains and low voltage versions. They serve both domestic and export markets with light fittings for both retail, commercial, and leisure lighting. Their LED new spotlights and light fittings are rapidly becoming best selling ones, incorporating some of the latest LED technologies. One more thing that you didn't know (and neither did we) concerning Illuma, Illuma's recent projects include providing the lighting for the Ice Age 4D Experience at Alton Towers. On our website you can purchase a wide range of Illuma downlights, spot lights, track systems, and flood lights, with more LED spotlights coming soon as they also design them and manufacture them. Check out some of the amazing Illuma applications here, here, and here. Illuma is so sure of the quality of their lights that they offer a full 5 year warranty on all their lighting equipment!
