This is the Zano ZGRID500 500W Universal Grid Dimmer fitting MK Logic, GET, BG, Wandsworth, Deta, Hamilton, MEM and Crabtree Grid Systems. Replacing the Richmond Lighting GRID500 dimmer is the new Zano ZGRID500, which comes with a special feature to counter flickering in the dimming cycle. Simply set the minimum level above the low-level flicker point, to prevent the dimmer from reaching the flickering point when in use – providing a much more professional and user-friendly product.

The Zano Controls ZGRID500 is simple to adjust on installation, and it’s this unique feature, combined with leading edge technology, that makes the difference between a good product, and a great product. 

  • Min. load level: min. 40W (Tungsten or low voltage), 12W CFL. 
  • Max. load level: 500W Tungsten load, 400W low voltage load, 66W CFL load.

The minimum level pre-set is located on the side of this ZGRID500 dimmer module. This is used to set the minimum level of light to a stable level to get the best from your dimmable lamps. This can be adjusted with a small screwdriver when the dimmers potentiometer is turned to the lowest point. Ensure mains are isolated and adjust in small intervals to find stable light point at minimum level ensuring it’s safe. (Be sure to turn power off before adjusting!)

There are two main reasons why other dimmers cause flicker:

  1. Most dimmers have a micro processor which is not suitable with linear loads as these can be too efficient and chip doesn’t recognise load.
  2. Dimmers without minimum level pre-sets can dim load too low which causes gasses in lamps to cool down to an unstable level or voltage is reduced beyond lamps minimum voltage level for operating.

Dimming Information

  • Mains tungsten halogen: To meet the load specification only lamps with an integral fuse should be used. We recommend lamps from the following manufacturers: Philips, Osram, GE, Sylvania, Megaman and Aurora. 
  • Wire wound & torroidal transformers: Wire wound transformers are intrinsically dimmable and provide a very reliable load for any dimming product. Take note to de-rate as per loading chart.
  • Electronic transformers: The ZGRID500 uses leading edge technology, which unlike transformers which are trailing edge, does not cause flickering and buzzing. We recommend transformers from manufacturers Collingwood and Mode. It is generally recommended that transformers are loaded to a minimum of 70% of their rating to avoid lamp flicker or poor dimmer operation. Zano Controls can advise or test if a specific transformer is required.
